Phase II of Uncle Doc's Card Closet is Complete!

Back in January, I was happy to share that I had completed Phase I of bringing Uncle Doc's Card Closet to life.  If you don't remember or are unawares, I had installed custom shelving on both ends of a narrow and deep closet.  On the left side of the closet, I installed shelving for sets, wax, etc.  On the right side of the closet, I put in five deep shelves that can hold 40+ 3,000 count boxes and binders.  Here are the original pictures for a refresher...

Left side

Right side

While this is fantastic for storage and ease of access, one glaring hole was left in this closet, and that was what to do with the space on the back wall of the closet between the shelves on the left and right.  Since the closet is narrow, around two feet wide, I couldn't put shelves from ceiling to floor because it would effectively block me from the other shelves.  So, I measured off my height on the wall, and put shelves above that line.  That way, I could still get to all my cards and not knock my noggin.  And here is the Phase II product...

I ran two shelves across the top of the closet.  The top shelf is 5 feet long and the bottom shelf is 5.5 feet.  On the top shelf I can set boxes four rows high and fit about 45 boxes.  On the lower shelf, I can fit two rows for about 30 boxes.  That's at least 75 sets I can fit up there.  Sweet!

Combine that with the left side of the closet where I can fit 80 sets and my wax, that makes storage for 155 sets!  Do I have 155 sets?  No, but maybe someday since my goal is to collect every flagship set for the Big 5 (Donruss, Fleer, Score, Topps and Upper Deck).

I've already got my Donruss want lists up, and after I sort the mess below, I will get my Fleer want lists up.

That's a lot of Fleer.  Where did it all come from????

Wish me luck!
Doc

Out of curiosity - is there enough room left in the closet for when your wife kicks you out of the bedroom for having so many sets?

The closet looks great!

I am honestly trying to rid myself of all of my Upper Deck base sets from 1993 thru 2009. Please contact me if you are interested in them.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jeff: Just looking at your closet, in awe, imagining all those cards, let alone organized (!!!)...phenomenal!

Congrats on a stellar collection and way to both access it and display it.
